Day 8 of the Women’s World Cup sees two of the Top 5 pre-tournament favorites take the field looking to prove why they can win it all. Groups C & D will have a much clearer outlook after today’s three matches.

Women’s World Cup: Japan vs Scotland

Date: Friday, June 14

Time: 9:00 a.m. ET

TV Channel: FOX Sports 1, Universo

The day begins with Japan looking to get their bid for a second World Cup title on track. They were held to a stunning 0-0 draw by Argentina in their first group match allowing England to gain a foothold atop Group D. The Japanese came in with the fifth-best odds to win this tournament, but their unexpected slow start has surely dampened expectations a bit. Just like Argentina, nothing much was expected of Scotland. Their 2-0 loss to England wasn’t too surprising. If they hope to last more than three matches in France, they’ll need to get a result against Japan.

Women’s World Cup: Jamaica vs Italy

Date: Friday, June 14

Time: 12:00 p.m. ET

TV Channel: FOX, Universo

Our first surprise team of the tournament revealed itself in the first round of group matches when Italy shocked Australia with a 1-0 win. With Brazil looking better than many thought they would, getting something out of this second match against Jamaica is a must. It should be pretty straightforward as the Reggae Girlz were easily handled by Brazil in their first game. Couple that with the fact that they’re 1000-1 to win this tournament, according to bookmakers, Italy is looking good to clinch a spot in the Round of 16. It’s just a matter of taking care of business.

Women’s World Cup: England vs Argentina

Date: Friday, June 14

Time: 3:00 p.m. ET

TV Channel: FOX, Telemundo

Live Stream: fuboTV (watch for free)

The Three Lionesses proved against Scotland in their first group match why they came into France with the fourth best odds of bringing the cup back home with them. Phil Neville’s side looked in complete control for the majority of the match, scoring twice in the first half before conceding a late goal after letting their foot off the gas. Argentina will be a tougher challenge for England. We should have a much better idea of just how realistic their World Cup title hopes are after this one. For Argentina, they’re looking to continue their surprising start by getting another result against a world power after picking up a point against Japan.
