Group C favorites Australia meet Italy in their opener before pool opponents Brazil have an easier test against Jamaica. That’s before border rivals England and Scotland clash in what will be Phil Neville’s debut World Cup fixture as a women’s coach.

There isn’t a great deal separating  Australia (No. 6) and Italy (No. 15) in the FIFA rankings, but recent form has hinted a potential upset could be in the cards at Stade de Hainaut in Valenciennes. The Matildas lost against the United States (5-3) and the Netherlands (3-0) traveling to France this summer, while a more confident-looking Italy is unbeaten in nine games (across 90 minutes) and are looking to begin their Group C campaign with a bang.

The other Group C inhabitants, Brazil and Jamaica, are set to face off at the Stade des Alpes in Grenoble, when it would be a major shock if the Selecao ended with anything other than three points. Brazil has won all three of their group games (and finished first in those pools) in the past three World Cups, while Jamaica will make their finals debut against an experienced finals foe.

Women’s World Cup: England vs. Scotland

  • Date: Sunday, June 9
  • Time: 12 p.m. ET/5 p.m. BST
  • TV: FOX, Telemundo
  • Live Stream: fuboTV (watch for free)

There’s more than just three points on the line for England and Scotland as the two begin their tournaments with a clash against rivals that could derail either side’s Group D quest. The Lionesses disappointingly signed off their warm-up period with a 1-0 friendly defeat to New Zealand. Scotland has looked dangerous of late and is hoping to surprise the No. 2-ranked team in the world after going unbeaten in five matches—which includes a 1-0 friendly win over Brazil.
