Lonzo Ball’s run with the Los Angeles Lakers came to an end after two disappointing, injury-plagued seasons, but the third-year point guard wasn’t necessarily upset to be moving on from Los Angeles.
The latest episode of the Facebook series, Ball in the Family, followed Lonzo as he found out about the trade that sent him to the New Orleans Pelicans along with Brandon Ingram and Josh Hart.
Lonzo was visiting family before heading to LaMelo’s Drew League game when the trade went through. Lonzo found out from social media — not from the Lakers.
As the episode showed, Lonzo wasn’t necessarily surprised by the news. He had been included in trade rumors for months, so a move seemed inevitable. He just wished he hadn’t moved to a new Los Angeles house just days before the trade.
Once the trade hit social media, Ingram was among the first people to call Lonzo. “I’m excited though, bro. We going to be straight,” Lonzo said in the phone call with Ingram.
After the Drew League game, LiAngelo and LaMelo both let Lonzo know how LaVar, whom Lonzo was no longer speaking to, took the news. The two younger Ball brothers said that LaVar was heated because he was no longer going to have all his sons in Los Angeles. LaMelo was set to go to Australia, and LiAngelo was looking to rehab an ankle injury with Lonzo.
“Big Baller about to be bored,” Lonzo joked about LaVar.
